Department of Education

The Department of Education at Louisiana State University at Alexandria has as its mission the promotion of quality instruction, stimulating scholarship, rigorous academic standards, appreciation of cultural diversity, and respect for the dignity of each future teacher, resulting in impacting the lives of these future teachers, their students and the world in which they live.

Welcome to LSUA’s professional teacher education program! The professional  education curriculum offers many exciting opportunities. You will observe highly effective veteran teachers in the classroom, participate in research studies, and plan and implement a variety of lesson types. As you enter the professional program, you will be faced with numerous challenges and rigorous coursework carefully designed to ensure that you are as prepared as possible prior to securing your professional license. All course requirements and field activities are designed to prepare you to become an excellent educator with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to meet the needs of all learners, including learners in rural and urban settings, learners with exceptionalities, and learners with a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Our program is a field-intensive program committed to facilitating your observations of and interactions with a diverse group of students with numerous academic and cultural needs. Therefore, we will require observations in classroom settings outside of your own classroom. This is essential to the success of our program and to your professional development. Our aim is to help you become the most effective teacher possible regardless of where you teach.

Congratulations on your decision to become a proactive educator! The faculty and staff of LSUA’s Department of Education wish you the best as you continue your education. Please do not hesitate to contact me, faculty of courses in which you are enrolled, or other personnel within the department for any assistance that you need. We are here to serve you.
