First Year Students


Use the following list to help prepare yourself for college. Though college may be far off, preparing early helps ensures:

  • Getting admitted.
  • Getting Scholarships. Some scholarships you need to start preparing for your freshman year.
  • Finishing college sooner. Taking college courses while you're in high-school allows you to get preliminary courses out of the way.
  • High-School Seniors

  • High School Juniors

  • High-School Freshmen & Sophomores

First Time Freshman Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  1. Completion of TOPS University Diploma, or its equivalent college readiness core curriculum at time of high school graduation AND
  2. High School GPA of 2.0 or higher AND
  3. Require no more than ONE Developmental Course (or qualify for co-requisite delivery of Freshman Composition or College Algebra) AND
  4. Either 2.0 GPA, or greater in Core Courses, or ACT Composite of 20* or greater

Requirements for College Level (Non-Developmental) Courses

  • ACT English subscore of 18 or higher
  • SAT Reading Score of 450 or higher
  • COMPASS Writing Score of 68 or higher
  • ACCUPLACER Sentence Skills Score of 86 or higher
  • ACT Math subscore of 19 or higher
  • SAT Math subscore of 460 or higher
  • COMPASS Algebra Score of 40 or higher
  • ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra Score of 65 or higher

*SAT equivalent:  TOTAL 1030

Co-Requisite Delivery

Students have an opportunity to be admitted to the university and enroll in a special co-requisite course for Freshman Composition or/and College Algebra with the following exam scores:

Freshman Composition (Students will enroll in both English 1001 and English 1000):

  • ACT English subscore of 15-17
  • SAT Writing Language score of 22-24
  • ACCUPLACER Sentence Skills score of 65-85

College Algebra (Students will enroll in both Math 1021 and Math 1000):

  • ACT Math subscore of 16-18
  • SAT Math subscore of 430-499
  • ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra score of 44-64

Student who require BOTH English and Math Co-Requisite courses will also be required to enroll in LSUA 1001, the LSUA Experience during the first semester of enrollment at LSUA.

Out of State and Home School Applicants

  1. Meet requirements above OR
  2. Complete 17 of 19 required units in HS, have a 2.0 or greater HS GPA,  require NO Developmental Courses, and ACT Composite of 20 OR
  3. ACT Composite of 23 or greater, or SAT Combination of Math and Reading of a 1050, and require NO Developmental Courses (see requirements above)
There is a $20 Application Fee that has to be paid before we can even start to process your application. If applying online you will have the opportunity to pay online after submitting your application.
