Jenkins Honored for Historic Preservation

LSUA congratulates Michael Jenkins on his work in historic preservation.

LSUA is proud to congratulate Michael Jenkins on receiving the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation’s Most Outstanding Preservation of 2017 Award at the LTHP’s annual conference this past week held at the Hotel Bentley in downtown Alexandria. At the same conference, Jenkins was also named the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism’s 2017 Person of the Year by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser.

Jenkins earned both awards for his revitalization of the Hotel Bentley in downtown Alexandria. Jenkins purchased the building in 2012 and despite early setbacks the hotel, Mirror Room Lounge, and Bentley Room restaurant are all in full operation. Additionally, condominiums are planned for a portion of the building that will bring downtown living to Alexandria.

The Hotel Bentley was not Jenkins first foray into historic preservation. He has major investments in the Commercial Bank Building, the Masonic Building, Diamond Grill Restaurant and Loyd Hall Plantation.

Jenkins is a longtime board member and former Chair of the LSUA Foundation Board of Directors.

“Mike Jenkins has made a tremendous impact in our community on so many levels.  With these two particular awards, he is recognized for his commitment to historic preservation and our community. On behalf of the LSUA Foundation Board we applaud his efforts, congratulate him and offer him our thanks,” said LSUA Foundation Executive Director Melinda Anderson.
