Congratulations to the MLS program.

LSUA is proud to announce its Medical Laboratory Science programs have been awarded accreditation from the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

The NAACLS awarded the Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Science program the maximum of 10 years of continuing accreditation and the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science the maximum initial accreditation of five years.

The NAACLS accreditation process is an extensive review process that includes a self-study process, site visit, and evaluation by a review committee, quality assurance committee and Board of Directors. The accreditation awards mean that each program is nationally accredited and meets the core and unique standards of accreditation set forth by the NAACLS. It provides a measure of assurance to potential students and employers of graduates that the program is structured in conformity with nationally accepted minimum career entry-level competencies.

“I am very thankful to the MLS faculty with special mention to Dr. Haywood Joiner and Ms. Sheryl Herring as an adjunct and former MLT program coordinator for their continued support and guidance throughout the process,” said Sona Kumar, MLS program coordinator. “The support from University administration, IT department, and clinical affiliates was a vital part of this success. The award itself speaks for the quality education students receive in the LSUA Medical Laboratory Science program.”

“We are extremely proud to offer NAACLS accredited programs at LSUA for we believe when it comes to allied health education, no one does it better than LSUA,” said Dr. Haywood Joiner, chair of the Department of Allied Health.

NAACLS is the premier accrediting agency for medical laboratory science programs in the United States.
